Where do I start?
First let me say that I’m starting this project not knowing whether or not it will turn out as well as I’m hoping it will. I mean I certainly have a healthy dose of self-confidence, but there are so many great blogs out there! Anyway, I hope to add mine to the list
Like the title of my blog says, I’m a former banker. From a very early age, I had wanted to be an entrepreneur, but never seemed to be able to find “the” right opportunity. It’s not for lack of trying, though, and I wasted untold amounts of money buying various “systems” that would bring me that elusive financial independence.
Moving to another country was (ironically) what allowed me to make that dream come true. I’ve now been living in the U.S. for 5 years, and I am a self-employed thirty-something. Sure, I had to tough it out, and even today, the ride can be pretty bumpy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I don’t make enough money to say I’m living the dream (far from it), but I can certainly say that I have been able to explore many interests of mine, most of which I will talk about at large here.
So what exactly will I be talking about?
Personal finance. As someone who’s always been interested in finance, there’s no way I can maintain a site and not talk about various aspects of finance and how it impacts my life and that of other people.
Technology. I’ve always very technology-oriented (which is just a very politically correct way to say that I’m a big NERD, lol). I love gadgets, and computers, and science, and documentaries. I’m a moderate MAC fan: I own a MacBook Pro, but I’m definitely not an iPhone guy; Android all the way!; I read on my Kindle and think I’d be more of a Kindle Fire type of guy than iPad. So yeah, I will talk tech on here!
Gaming. I started playing videogames when I was around 10 and never looked back, although I have definitely narrowed the type of game I play. I have absolutely no interest in first-person shooters (a la Call of Duty). I’m definitely an RPG type of guy (Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Assassin’s Creed, Uncharted). That’s probably why I don’t own an XBox, since most of its marquee franchises are FPS. Playstation forever!!! LOL
Health/Fitness. I try and stay in shape. It helps that I can create my own schedule, so I carve out a bit of time for my daily workout. I also try and watch what I eat. This may come up every now and then on this blog, when I have specific things I’m trying. I won’t bore you to death with the details of my daily workouts but if I were to try and train for a marathon or start a fitness program such as Insanity, I would certainly share the progress.
Reading. Having a Kindle has turned me into a voracious reader. I will try and provide a glimpse of what I’m currently reading, and what I’m getting out of it. Hopefully it won’t be so boring that it causes people to tune me out.
Movies/TV. Take what I said about reading and apply it to movies and TV. Well when it comes to TV, I don’t watch a lot of it, and especially not the drivel that is reality TV. But I do watch a lot of documentaries! Netflix helps tremendously with that.
Fun. This is basically for when I go out. Whenever I find something interesting and worth being shared, I will. I enjoy eating out, cooking, traveling, and trying new things…
So there you have it. Oh wow, where are my manners? My name is Will (this is probably what I should have started with). You can write me at will [at] formerbanker [dot] com. Otherwise, sit back, relax, and enjoy the (hopefully) fun ride!
